Finally ... Lilacs!

My buddy got several trees and shrubs from the Arbor Day Foundation almost three years ago and we stuck them in 5 gallon buckets until I bought this house in March 2009. While they all survived the experience, I wondered if this lilac bush was ever going to do anything as it hasn't seemed to grow much since planting it in the ground.

My poor little lilac bush did sprout leaves last year, but was still pretty small. It hasn't grown much since then, (it's still only about thigh-high to me), so I wasn't sure what to expect.

I took another look the other day and lo and behold ... I see lilac buds!

I doubt the handful of buds on my scrawny little lilac bush are going to add much fragrance and beauty to the neighborhood, but it's a start and gives me hope of what I might see in years to come.

I get free amazon gift cards by using SwagBucks.  Did you know you can even buy lilac bushes at amazon.com?

Lilacs are my favorite fragrance. Growing up, we had a bush in our back yard and for such a small period of time, the yard was so fragrant and beautiful. I love the color, the smell, the look – everything about the Lilac, even the way the name sounds. I used to climb into the hollow of my mother's lilac bush and that was my secret hideaway from the world. When it was in full bloom, it was so fragrant and perfect for watching the world unseen.

I love lilacs too. I have a very small bush that was little more than a chunk of a root off of an old bush that I planted about 9 years ago. I have pretty blooms on it this year. I think a couple years ago was the first time it bloomed.
